April 13, 2010 Final Stats |  Photo Gallery  STILLWATER, Okla. - Second baseman Davis Duren drove in four runs and center fielder Dusty Harvard scored the winning run on a wild pitch to lift the Oklahoma State baseball team to a 7-6 win in 10 innings over No. 11 Oklahoma Tuesday night in front of 2,072 at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. The Cowboys improved to 19-12 on the year with the win, while the Sooners fell to 25-8. It was the first Bedlam baseball clash played on a campus site since 1996 and the game was counted as a non-conference tilt. Additionally, it was the first extra-inning Bedlam affair since 2005. OU entered Tuesday's contest with a perfect 8-0 record in midweek games, but the Cowboys blighted that mark by manufacturing the winning run with two outs in the 10th inning. Sooner closer Ryan Duke (0-1) retired Kevin Chambers and Luis Uribe to start the inning, then coaxed a ground ball to first base out of Harvard, but OU first baseman Cameron Seitzer's flip to Duke covering the bag was high and Harvard reached on the error. Harvard took second on a wild pitch, then back-to-back walks issued to Duren and designated hitter Dane Phillips loaded the bases. With Cowboy third baseman Mark Ginther at the plate, Duke bounced another wild pitch to the backstop to score Harvard and send OSU home victorious. OSU starter Mike Strong turned in a quality outing, but took a no-decision after going seven innings. He left the game with the Cowboys on top, 6-3. The Sooners tied the game with Brad Probst on the hill for the Pokes, but Ian McCarthy improved to 1-1 on the year after going 1 1/3 innings to claim the win. Though they ended up with no runs to show for it, the Pokes hit OU starter J.R. Robinson hard in the first inning, driving Sooner center fielder Chris Ellison to the warning track twice for well-hit putouts off the bats of Duren and Mark Ginther, respectively. The Cowboys continued to make solid contact and broke through in the second when a Kevin David double down the left field line set the stage for an RBI single through the right side from Kevin Chambers two batters later. OSU starter Mike Strong motored through the first 3 2/3 innings before giving up a solo home run to left field off the bat of Sooner third baseman Garrett Buechele. The Pokes answered in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out bases-loaded double from Duren off the base of the left-center field fence that plated three runs. Robinson retired the first two Cowboy batters of the inning before OU second baseman Max White booted a grounder off the bat of Chambers. Right fielder Luis Uribe singled to center and center fielder Dusty Harvard walked to load the bases for Duren's timely double. The Sooners scored via the big fly again in the top of the fifth, but again it was a solo job, this time off the bat of Kaleb Herren in line-drive fashion over the left-field fence. A single from designated hitter Drew Harrison followed before Strong hit Cody Reine with a pitch to set the stage for a two-out RBI single up the middle off the bat of Chris Ellison. Strong got out of the inning with some help from an impressive defensive play from Duren. Sooner catcher Tyler Ogle hit a grounder that bounced off Strong's glove and rolled free on the right side of the infield, where Duren scooped it up with his glove and flipped it to Chambers at first without the ball ever touching his throwing hand. With runners on second and third at the time, Duren's scoop saved at least one run. Duren continued his productive night when he drove in an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth with a bloop single to center that scored Uribe from second. David added more cushion to the Cowboy advantage when he walked to lead off the seventh, then stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Tom Belza. He then scored on a wild pitch to bring the OSU lead to 6-3. Those insurance runs proved crucial one inning later, when OU's Buechele struck again for his second home run of the evening, this time a two-run sock to left off of OSU's Probst. After the Cowboys went scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, the Sooners tied the game on the strength of a two-out single from Reine in the top of the ninth. The Cowboys went down in order in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. The Cowboys return to action when they travel to Columbia, Mo., for a three-game weekend set with Missouri. First pitch for Friday's clash is set for 6 p.m.

Tiger Baseball Team Sweeps Sunday Doubleheader From Dallas

San Antonio – The Trinity Tigers baseball team swept a three-game non-conference series with the University of Dallas Crusaders by taking a doubleheader Sunday at E.M. Stevens Field.

Trinity (18-5) won Sunday’s first game 7-1, and was a 13-7 winner in the second. The Tigers beat the Crusaders 14-9 in Saturday’s opening game.

The Tigers have now won four games in a row, and 10 of the last 11.

Trinity took a 7-0 lead after six innings in the first game, a scheduled seven-inning contest. A highlight came in the sixth inning, as junior designated hitter Kyle Felix smacked his sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the sixth inning. Felix, from Woodside, Calif., (Bellarmine College Prep), registered his 23rd career home run, placing him in a tie for fifth all-time on the Tigers’ list. He batted 2-3 with three RBIs, and scored one run.

Junior right-hander Michael Panozzo of Houston (Clear Lake) was the starter, and picked up the victory. Panozzo (5-2), the first of three Tiger pitchers, hurled six innings, and did not allow a run. He yielded only two hits and one walk. Dallas scored one earned run, off three hits, committed three errors, and left three players on base. Trinity scored four earned runs, collected eight hits, made two errors, and left eight runners on base.

The nine-inning second game started with the Tigers producing four runs in the first inning. Sophomore outfielder Nick Pappas hit a three-run homer to right center field, his fifth of the season. Pappas, from Los Angeles (Loyola), batted 2-5 with three RBIs, and two runs.

Trinity led 7-1 after a three-run fourth inning. The inning began with a triple by first-year third baseman Kevin Francke. He swatted a two-run homer in the seventh, his first of the campaign. Francke, from Yorba Linda, Calif. (Mater Dei), went 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

The Crusaders inched forward in the game by scoring six more runs in the final five innings. But the Tigers answered with six of their own, staying comfortably in the lead.

Senior designated hitter Chris Walden of Phoenix (Brophy College Prep), batted 3-4 with an RBI, two runs, and a triple.

Sophomore right-hander Josh Fink of Coronado, Calif. (Coronado), started the game and pitched for 5 1/3 innings. Fink (1-0), who took the win, allowed three earned runs, six hits, and three walks. The five Trinity pitchers allowed six earned runs and 11 hits.

Dallas, which made two errors and stranded nine runners, gave up 10 earned runs on 14 hits. The Tigers committed two errors and left seven players on base.

Trinity travels to Abilene, Texas, Tuesday for non-conference game with McMurry (noon) and Hardin-Simmons (4:30 p.m.).  The Tigers return home Saturday, March 27, for a SCAC doubleheader with defending champion Hendrix. The two teams play a single game Sunday, March 28. Hendrix, which beat Trinity in last year’s SCAC Championship game, captured two games from the Tigers Feb. 27-28 at Conway, Ark.

The Tigers stand at 7-3 in SCAC play.

NJCU took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Ramirez deposited a two-out, 2-2 pitch over the left field fence. It was his first homer as a member of the NJCU roster since transferring from Montclair State University. In the third, Witte tripled with one out and scored on Fiorentino’s sac fly. Freshman righty Paul Piccirillo (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) started and took the loss. In 2.1 innings, he allowed six runs and six hits, walking four.
After SJCBK took a 1-0 lead in the second, Gutierrez led off with a double and scored when junior shortstop TOM BURKE (Edison, NJ/Immaculata) tied it with a sac fly. Gutierrez singled and scored on a single by Lacik. After Rivera doubled, it was a 6-2 lead. Witte collected an RBI single to score Rivera before Fiorentino lofted a two-run homer to left-center as the Knights surged out to a 9-2 margin. Tetrick walked and that brought up Ramirez, the offensive star of the game, for his second at bat of the inning. Ramirez launched another round-tripper, a two-run shot to left center, as the Knights advantage swelled to 11-2.

San Antonio, Texas - The Pacific baseball team posted a victory against the Notre Dame Irish on Friday, March 12. With the Tigers' second win in the Irish classic, they improve to 9-4 on the year, as the Irish fall to 6-7 on the season.

Senior LHP David Rowse (Pleasanton, Calif.) earned his third win on the season for his efforts against Notre Dame. Irish starter, Cole Johnson, was charged with the loss as he dropped to 1-3 on the year. That means Pacific's top two starters, for the first time in head coach Ed Sprague's career are a combined 7-0 to start out this 2010 season.

"The important thing today is that Rowse battled and got the job done," said Sprague. "We got clutch hitting and again played good defense. We are happy we won the first two games, but we are looking at this as a four-game series and we want to win the series."

Sophomore Brett Christopher (Livermore, Calif.) kick-started the Tigers' offense in the first inning. With a one-out triple to right center, Christopher would post the first hit of the day for Pacific. After the Tigers recorded their second out in the frame, Christopher showed his speed as he stole home off of Notre Dame's starter Johnson, to give Pacific an early 1-0 lead over the Irish.

In the bottom of the first, Rowse faced the minimum of three batters, registering two of his three strikeouts of the game.

Pacific put up another run in the top of the second inning. Senior Matt Fuson (Lodi, Calif.) reached on a bunt single and set the table for freshman John Haberman (Stockton, Calif.). Haberman reached second on an error by the Irish, as Fuson advanced to third. Senior Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) earned an RBI on a squeeze bunt to score Fuson, putting the Tigers in front 2-0.

Junior Nick Longmire (San Diego, Calif.) started off the third inning with a walk. Christopher posted his second hit of the day, with a bunt single that moved Longmire to second base. Junior Brian Martin (Livermore, Calif.) advanced both runners on yet another sacrifice bunt. A single through the right side by junior J.B. Brown (Alvin, Texas) would score two more runs for the Tigers, increasing their lead to 4-0 over Notre Dame.

The Irish loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning with one out. A sacrifice fly by Notre Dame would score their only run of the inning, bringing the score to 4-1.

A lead-off double by the Irish in the fourth inning would lead to another run, cutting the Pacific lead to 4-2.

Christopher was hit by a pitch to start off the top of the fifth inning for the Tigers. Martin followed up with a single, to advance Christopher to second. Senior Mike Walker (Marysville, Calif.) was next to the plate and he hit a three-run shot over the right field wall to boost Pacific's lead to 7-2. Walker's blast became the team-leading third homerun for the senior of the 2010 season.

The Tigers would post their final run in the eighth inning. Back-to-back singles by Fuson and Haberman put runners on first and third. Freshman Dustin Torchio (Santa Cruz, Calif.) bunted to the pitcher to record an RBI as Fuson scored, bringing the score to 8-2.

A single followed by a double started off the bottom of the eighth for Notre Dame. A sacrifice fly would score the runner at third, making the score 8-3. A groundout would score the final run for the Irish, as Pacific held Notre Dame scoreless in the ninth.

The Tigers next return to action when they take on the Bradley Braves on Saturday, March 13, for a 1:00 p.m. PT first pitch.

With Pacific's two victories, they have secured a spot in the championship game which will start at 11:00 a.m. PT on Sunday.
