The season looked grim when the Pioneers began the season 0-7, but with hard work and dedication and the addition of key members to the roster, the Pioneers advanced to the NBC World Series in the first season, going 1-2 in Wichita. Pitcher of the year Ian McCarthy (Oklahoma State) proved to be the key member of the pitching staff with a record of 5-1 and a 1.07 ERA. Offensive leaders of the team were outfielders Erik Hempe and David Silvas. Both are sophomores at Cypress Junior College. Hempe hit .345, knocked in 32 runs, with 27 runs scored. Silvas hit .440, 24 runs batted in, and 37 runs scored. All three will be returning for the 2010 campaign. |
